When the Universe Decides

July 30, 2025

When someone develops cancer, it's often due to genetic mutations — which can occur randomly. I wonder if, to some extent, that randomness could be quantum in nature. Of course, many deterministic factors influence the odds, but if there's also a quantum component, then until the mutation actually occurs, it's fundamentally unpredictable whether it will happen to a given person. In that sense, it’s almost as if the universe itself hasn’t decided yet.
The same could be said of love. Many deterministic elements are at play — biology, psychology, past experiences — yet the unique combination of neural firings that leads one person to choose another might also involve quantum indeterminacy. Perhaps, in that sense too, the universe hasn’t yet decided whom you will love
